Cellar Door Sales

Europeans first settled the Strathbogie Ranges in the 1840s. These first settlers established very large grazing properties and one of these was known as Elgo. The rugged landscapes reminded these early settlers of home, and named the property, like many in the area, after a place in Scotland.

Elgo was purchased by the Taresch family in 1997, who immediately embarked upon an extensive program to improve the property. Part of the property's rejuvenation included the development of land for the planting of a vineyard on the slopes of Upton Hill at the top of Elgo Estate. This development commenced in 2000 with the winery commissioned in time for the 2004 Vintage.

Originating from Germany, Gunter and Hermine Taresch migrated to Australia in 1962 and have since raised a family. In addition they have created a very successful graphic design business in Melbourne. The younger of two sons, Grant, now directs and manages the vineyard and winery at Elgo Estate.

The wines of Elgo Estate are a culmination of their passion to create something special in this part of the world by capturing the unique expression of the climate and soils of the Strathbogie Ranges.
